Job Description

The Director of Clinical Services has administrative oversight of clinical services in the Skilled Nursing Facility (SNF) and Assisted Living Services Agency (ALSA).  This role is to function as the Director of Clinical Services of the SNF & ALSA, in accordance with all applicable state and federal regulations.  The Director plans, organizes, directs, staffs and coordinates the activities of the above mentioned department in line with Duncaster's mission and objectives.

  • Contributes to the achievement of excellence through the quality and care values of the mission of Duncaster.
  • Develops, implements, and reviews all clinical/nursing standards of practice.
  • Develops and maintains effective methods of communication.
  • Develops systems which assure effective coordination and integration of clinical services.
  • Oversees day to day clinical operations of inpatient services, medical records activities, and medical/surgical supplies.
  • Effectively addresses any compliance issues or potential issues in a timely manner.
  • Keeps administration apprised of any potential compliance issues.
  • Develops systems that effectively address any compliance trends and/or issues.
  • Responsible to continuously evaluate and maintain compliance.
  • Develops policies and procedures that ensure all areas of compliance.
  • Develops and maintains staffing patterns in accordance with Public Health Code and Duncaster's standard of practice.
  • Participates in on call responsibility.
  • Effectively meets all regulatory requirements for Director of Nursing.
  • Establishes outcome-based goals and programs to monitor quality of care within clinical areas.
  • Ensures all clinical staff maintains up-to-date knowledge of current developments in geriatrics and individual areas of practice.
  • Develops, coordinates, and maintains written clinical policies and procedures that ensure the highest quality of care possible.
  • Coordinates effective QI program and maintains QI compliance with all regulatory agencies. Effectively communicates all aspects of QI program with unit managers and all staff.
  • Assures effective communication systems between staff, Administrator and other departments.
  • Develops a budget and operates services within its guidelines.
  • Directs recruitment, selection, orientation, training, and ongoing evaluation of all clinical staff.
  • Oversees and/or implements disciplinary action.
  • Utilizes sound judgment and decision making regarding labor practices.
  • Directly supervises and evaluates performance of Infection Control, Staff Development, MDS Coordinator, SALSA and Administrative Support staff.
  • Participates in all relevant committees.


Job Requirements

  • B.S.N. or equivalent
  • MSN, MBA, or Clinical Specialist (preferred)
  • 10 years direct nursing experience
  • 5 years of home health experience or assisted living
  • 5 years of management experience
  • Geriatric experience and orientation
  • Rehabilitation experience and orientation
  • Connecticut license or license-eligible
