Job Description

The Registered Nurse Infection Preventionist is a critical part of a dynamic healthcare management team wth primay responsibility for training and development of clinical staff, infection control and employee health.  In addition, this position will participate in team-based quality improvement initiatives focused on innovative programming designed to maintain our reputation for excellence in care delivery for our residents.

  • Protects resident’s rights, confidentiality and dignity.
  • Plans, develops and directs the orientation program for all employees; supervises and monitors nursing employees throughout individualized orientation period;
  • Develops in-service programs in response to staff needs and teaches staff current accepted customer care and center practices;
  • Participates in interdepartmental meetings to assess and coordinate need for in-service;
  • Assists in the evaluation of performance of new employees during the probationary period.
  • Assists in development and implementation of the Q.I. program.
  • Orients all new employees at the time of hire and annually to the facility practice of Standard Universal Precautions.
  • Educates all staff in Transmission Based Precautions.
  • Works with HR to Maintain in-service records on all employees.
  • Works closely withHRand other managers to ensure employee educational requirements are met.
  • Provides resident specific education for all infection/communicable disease issues.
  • The Director of Staff Development interacts with customers, families, visitors and
  • Staff. 
  • He/she carries out other tasks as requested in situations where hands-on
  • intervention/participation may be required.
  • Performs other duties as requested.

 

Job Requirements

  • Comprehensive knowledge of geriatric nursing assessment skills.
  • Thorough knowledge of State and Federal regulated standards of practice.
  • Registered Nurse licensed in Connecticut, BSN preferred
  • A minimum of three years full time or equivalent clinical experience is required and a minimum of two years of clinical experience in long-term care nursing with one year in a management/administrative or supervisory capacity is preferred.
  • Demonstrates success in creating an interdisciplinary educational program.
  • Good verbal and communication skills with the ability to demonstrate organizational and educational skills.
  • Must be able to analyze, organize and adapt training and educational materials.
  • Must be able to execute the details of planning an in-service training program and to present the subject matter effectively.
  • Ability to relate to and motivate all levels of staff.
  • Certified in line management of IV therapy.
