Duncaster, a premier Life Plan Community located in Bloomfield, CT is currently seeking a Culinary Director to join our leadership team.  The Culinary Director reports to the Vice President - Operations and is responsible for leading our fine dining experience for the residents. 

The successful candidate will have superior skills in hospitality management, fine dining expertise, special event planning, and the ability to supervise, train and motivate staff in accordance with fine dining practices.  The candidate must be able to interface with people at all levels and with residents in a positive and professional manner with the objective of maintaining a high quality level of service to ensure residents’ satisfaction. 

The incumbent is responsible for the day to day operations of the culinary department and overall administration and direction of the kitchen and dining services. The Culinary Director is to provide Duncaster residents, visitors, and staff members outstanding dining experiences by demonstrating strong leadership, creativity, integrity and resourcefulness as it pertains to quality, consistency and profitability.

  • Superior skills in high volume hospitality management, fine dining expertise, special event planning, menu planning, equipment knowledge, overall food production, meal presentation and table service.
  • Ability to hire, train, schedule, supervise and motivate a large team of staff members in accordance with fine dining practices for both front of the house and back of the house operations in a team-oriented setting.
  • Must be able to interface with residents and staff members at all levels in a positive and professional manner with the objective of maintaining a high-quality level of service to ensure resident satisfaction.
  • The ability to inspire and create an espirit de corps with the dining team staff, making work a fun experience and building a strong culture
  • Carrying out the vision and mission of Duncaster’s Culinary Program
  • Must have excellent communication skills; must be able to demonstrate effective reading, writing, speaking and analytical skills
  • Must be a detail-oriented person and be able to perform duties with great accuracy, multi-task in a fast pace environment and prioritize job duties.
  • Must be able to work overtime, holidays, weekends as assigned.
  • Adheres to proper sanitation laws, food borne illness, and cross-contamination policies and procedures; must be SERV Safe certified.

  • Adheres to departmental policies & procedures


Job Requirements

  • Education: High school diploma (2 years formal training or equivalent in Restaurant Hospitality)
  • Experience: 5-year management and operational experience in a high-volume upscale food service establishment such as hotels, restaurants, healthcare or retirement living situation required
  • Certified in CPR and Heimlich maneuver
  • Certification in accordance with regulatory agencies governing the community
